VIRTUAL WINE IDOL TAKES STAGE AT THE WINE SHOW 2006

Wine buffs to compete for a place on the Virtual Wine expert panel.
London, 26 October 2006 – Virtual Wine, the independent wine community that produces and broadcasts fun Virtual Wine Tasting Events on the internet, is hosting a Virtual Wine Idol competition during the duration of The Wine Show at the Business Design Centre, Islington, from 26-29 October 2006. Virtual Wine will run auditions on stand C34A to find the ”voice of the wine people” to join their team of leading wine experts. The winner will be invited to join the live panel at the next Virtual Wine Tasting Event on 2 December. The ‘Idol’ will also get the chance to become a regular contributor to their video blog and wine writing team.
Any visitor over 18 can turn up to the Virtual Wine stand and have a go. During the auditions, each contestant will be filmed for two minutes and asked to describe selected wines. Virtual Wine resident panellists Ben Llewelyn and James Booth will then pick the five best contestants, before the members of the public are allowed to vote for their favourite clip on the Virtual Wine website (www.virtualwine.co.uk). The winner will be announced on 5 November 2006.
Ben Llewellyn, Virtual Wine resident expert, said: “With Virtual Wine Idol, we wanted to give wine lovers an opportunity to share their passion in a fun environment. Our Live Virtual Wine Tasting Events are all about sharing and learning whilst enjoying yourself, which we wanted to reflect in our competition.”
Virtual Wine is hosting another competition at The Wine Show this year. Visitors can enter a draw to win a row of vines for a year in the wine-rich region of Languedoc, France. The winner will receive a case of wine extracted from their own vines whilst 10 runners up will receive a Virtual Wine Taster Pack, worth over £50, to be sampled for the next online event on 2 December 2006.
