Testimonials

The evening with Tastoria was a wonderful experience. It was great to enjoy the selection of wines which were expertly paired with the food. It is also nice to do this in the comfort of your own home which removes the potential intimidation factor that can be available at a public tasting event. I will definitely do...

VIRTUAL WINE TASTING SHOWS WAY FORWARD

Independent wine club Virtual Wine is launching a web-based wine-tasting service that will enable wine suppliers to create online tasting events for their restaurant customers.

A joint venture between wine distributor New Generation Wines and web production company In Situ Productions, Virtual Wine says its online events will be based around a selection of wine that the wine merchant can send to each of its restaurant customers. Staff at a restaurant can log on and join an interactive tasting with a panel of experts.

Virtual Wine currently runs online tastings on Sunday evenings for consumers who purchase wine through its website, but tastings can be organised at whatever time suits people working in a particular restaurant. The transcript from each weekend tasting is available on the website for any customers who are unable to log on for the live event.

Enotria Winecellars took part in a tasting of Italian wines in November which has helped push the company towards the concept of virtual restaurant wine education. 'We have not yet commissioned any particular tastings for our customers but the concept is very much in line with our strong belief and investment in supporting and training our customers,' says Davina Boyle of Enotria's marketing team.

The next Virtual Wine consumer tasting will take place on 29 January, transmitted live from La Trouvaille restaurant in Soho. The wines set to be tried will come from Burgundy, the Loire, the Rhone, Alsace and the Languedoc, and can be purchased from the Virtual Wine website up to a week before the tasting. For more information, visit www.virtualwine.co.uk.
